littorina littorea - Common Periwinkle
Periwinkles are edible and are harvested by hand by locals in Maine. This little sea snail is an invasive species, feeding on algae and other kelp. It has been found that when singing or humming to a live periwinkle, it will open its aperture.
The Periwinkle Shell Necklace is made from the molding and casting of a real common periwinkle snail shell in recycled silver. A friend found the original in Maine.
Once the casting is created, I solder on a jumpring and it is strung on a 16”, 18” or 20” cable chain of your choice..
The charm itself is just under 1" long and 1/2” wide including bail.
This design is currently available in polished or oxidized sterling silver but other metals, finishes and chains are always available, message me for custom options and a quote. All HKM Jewelry pieces are properly hallmarked for metal type and stamped for authenticity.
