This Limpet Shell Ring is made from the molding and casting of a real found Key Hole Limpet shell in recycled silver. I collected the original empty mollusk shell on a beach in Delray, Florida and then sent it to a local, family owned casting company to be cast in multiples of solid metal. Once the casting is returned, I solder on the ring band and polish it up to perfection. The shell is offered in either small or large. The small shell is only 1/2" long and 1/4" wide, the large size is about 1" long and 1/2" wide.
Limpets are gastropods, or mollusks that create one shell to live in. There are over 400 different species of limpets worldwide. These mollusks attach themselves to rocks in the intertidal area. The shape of their shells act as a barrier to the waves. Their ability to clamp down on the rocks also seals the shell's edge against the rock surface, protecting them from drying out during low tide, even in full sunlight.
This design is currently available in solid polished or oxidized sterling silver but other metals and finishes are always available, email me for custom options and a quote.
