These Sand Dollar Stud Earrings are made from the molding and casting of real dove shaped Sand Dollar Tooth in recycled silver. I collected the original tooth from breaking open a sand dollar exoskeleton and then sent it to a local, family owned casting company to be cast in multiples of solid metal. Once the castings are returned, I solder on the silver ear post. Finally they are cleaned up and hand polished with care. Each stud comes with a proper sterling butterfly back ear nut for its post.
A Sand Dollar is a common find along the shores of the Atlantic and Pacific. Inside its body there are 5 teeth shaped like little doves that are arranged in such a way that creates a star pattern around its mouth part. This Echinoderm is closely related to sea urchins and sea stars and has a typical life span of 6-10 years. In Legends they are said to symbolize peace and hope and the many star shapes in a sand dollar resembles the Star of Bethlehem or the Star of David.
The doves are only 10mm long and wide. This design is currently available in solid sterling silver but other metals and finishes are always available, message me for custom options and a quote.
