Nodipecten nodosus - Lion’s Paw Scallop
Nearly overfished in the 80s in Brazil, this species of scallop is sought after for food in many locations due to its wide range from Southern North America to the West Indies and Brazil. You can find this scallop in deep water caves, or within shipwrecks. Aquaculturists can now "farm" them similar to how oysters are grown in mesh bags. The Lion's Paw is the birth shell for July.
These Lion's Paw Pearl Drops are made from the molding and casting of a real found scallop shell in recycled silver. The original empty mollusk shell was given to me by a friend who found this rare shell in South Florida.
These earrings are only 1.5“ long and 1" wide. The gorgeous bezel set freshwater pearls are 10mm and each post will come with an oversized 9mm sterling silver ear nut back. These bold beauties are lightweight for their size and sure to make a statement!
