The Whale Caller & Beach Stone Family Ring
I lovely collector of HKM Jewelry was having her first baby and wanted a custom set of jewelry to represent her growing family. Over the years, her and her husband spent lots of time on the beach collecting treasures, last summer was the first time they saw whales offshore their home beach in Asbury Park. When she became pregnant, they called her son the "little whale caller" and wanted to have a sea glass swimmer created as a push present. I designed it in honor of Benny - the little whale caller, using her own found sea glass from Asbury Park. She also wanted a family style ring using beach pebbles that she and her husband collected in Cape May on their "babymoon" trip a month before their due date.
After sketching some designs we finalized them and I got to work! It was her vision to have a spout of water coming from the whales blow hole, so I fabricated that in twisted wire for added texture while keeping the pendant at a manageable size to be able to be worn every day.
Afterwards, the back of the pendant was engraved with his name and birthday. She strung it along with an encapsulated breastmilk charm made by her using glitter, epoxy and a decorative bezel. The two pendants complement each other so nicely.
The family ring is made using raw stones left "as found" clustered together in bezels, the two cape may diamonds represent her and her husband, the red stone - her son. Adorned with 14k gold clams on the shank of the ring.
"I received my order today & I just have to say I am blown away by having my little treasures turned into such beautiful and special pieces! I’ve already taken them for a walk down to the beach! Thank you so much for your patience and creativity in helping me turn my treasure into wearable treasures. I am so in love with these pieces and all of the pieces I have previously bought! You are very talented and I will certainly be back to shop with you in the future" - Kim
