Teal Humpback Whale

Beautiful Kristin met me at a sea glass show in St Michaels and loved my whale pieces, so we discussed her favorite color of sea glass and I sourced some for her to choose from for a custom humpback necklace. The teal color is particularly rare in our parts of the Atlantic, so I reached out to by friend Ky the Bored Pirate - who sails all over the Caribbean in search of sea glass treasures to get the right shape.

Once the sea glass came in, I got to sketching and lastly we had to select the beads for the chain connection. She selected a green hue of fluorite along with faceted aquamarine. I drew the whale and hand cut it out of sheet silver, hand textured with a hammer and pierced out the eye details. Oxidizing the silver helped to highlight the details.

This sweet humpback was such a joy to create, I was sad to see it go, but was thrilled to see it on such a lovely person in the end!
