The Hermit Crab Claw Stud Earrings are made from the molding and casting of a real found, Flat Clawed Hermit Crab molt in recycled silver. Hermit Crabs, like all crustaceans, shed their exoskeleton as they grow during a process called molting. The Flat Clawed Hermit is native to the Atlantic and can be found all the up and down the coast!
I collected the original shed on a beach in Cape May, New Jersey, and then had it molded and cast in solid silver. Once the castings are made, I solder on sterling silver posts. The claw itself is only 10mm long and 8mm wide, each earring comes with a 7mm ear nut backing, not pictured.
This design is currently available in solid, sterling silver but other metals and finishes are always available, message me for custom options and a quote. All HKM Jewelry pieces are properly hallmarked for metal type and stamped for authenticity.
