squilla empusa - Mantis Shrimp
The mantis shrimp is an interesting specimen, the Atlantic species has emerald green eyes, with more photoreceptors than humans. They are very aggressive predators and will hunt fish, crabs, worms, and other mantis shrimp. Using its wicked-fast claws to strike its prey 50 times faster than the blink of an eye. Even if they miss at first strike, since it is so fast, "cavitation bubbles" from the force of the blow, can stun, and even kill the prey. In some species, the tail plate is used as a defense against this incredible force and can withstand the blow in battle.
The charm is made from the molding and casting of a real found Mantis shrimp shed in recycled silver. The original was found by a dear friend in New Jersey. The charm is 1.125" long and 1" wide including bail, a protective shield. It is strung on an 18”, or 20” sterling silver cable chain of your choice.
